Hi! My 4 week old is breast fed but the idea was always that he would have one bottle feed during the night from about 3 weeks so that DH could get a chance to feed him and also I could sleep through a night feed. BUT... our precious little boy doesn't like it too much. He chugs down the first 40 - 50ml like he is starving ( we stop after about 20 ml to quickly burp him and also slow him down a little) and then after the 50 ml or so we change him (we do this half way through a breast feed as well to wake him up a little and give him a little break) he then starts to make his hungry face again but flat out refuses to take any more. It gets to the point where he starts screaming because we aren't feeding him but when we try to put the bottle in his mouth he thrashes about and screams and coughs and splutters on it. We end up putting him on the breast and he is fine. We just don't know what to do. We really want him to able to take a bottle so that it gives me a little freedom and really just in case of emergency (for instance I get horrible migraines and I"m scared one day I won't be able to do a breast feed and DH will have to bottle feed him). Any suggestions at all would be really welcome and appreciated. Thanks!
